CBZ (Comic Book ZIP) is functionally identical to CBR but uses ZIP compression instead of RAR. Because ZIP is an open format, CBZ is widely preferred by open-source comic management software such as Calibre, Komga, and Ubooquity. CBZ is now the de facto standard for digital comic distribution outside of proprietary platforms. Like CBR, it stores sequentially ordered images with no text layer, relying entirely on scan quality for readability.

If the original CBZ contains footnotes or endnotes, they will appear inline. Use find-and-replace in a text editor to clean up any leftover markup artifacts.
