CBZ (Comic Book ZIP) is functionally identical to CBR but uses ZIP compression instead of RAR. Because ZIP is an open format, CBZ is widely preferred by open-source comic management software such as Calibre, Komga, and Ubooquity. CBZ is now the de facto standard for digital comic distribution outside of proprietary platforms. Like CBR, it stores sequentially ordered images with no text layer, relying entirely on scan quality for readability.

Converting CBZ to HTLMZ extracts the sequentially ordered images from the CBZ archive and repackages them within a HTLMZ container. Comic archives convert to HTLMZ as image sequences. Ensure the archive contains images in correct alphabetical/numerical order, as Calibre relies on filename ordering. High-resolution images produce larger output files; consider resizing images beforehand. After downloading the HTMLZ file, rename it to .zip and unzip to access the HTML and CSS files directly. Edit them in any text editor, re-zip the folder, and rename back to .htmlz before importing into Calibre for further conversion.
